[ Statement ]

A common thread. To know without knowing. A Priori knowledge.

Using repetition as a tool, both the reproducible nature of the symbol existing as a monolithic gestalt
and the echo of its repeating patterns of a potential universal concept are allowed to coexist. Like sound beats,
the symbols in my work appear in patterns, in turn making their own patterns. I observe and attempt to
illustrate the interminable expansion and contraction of human history's common threads coagulating
into a larger whole. There, they can be examined and displayed in their many pieces.

[ Biography ]

Tom Benincase was born in Patchogue, New York in 1973. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in visual
arts from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1996, he moved to Astoria, Queens to work as
a graphic designer.

Currently, Tom is producing multiples influenced by petroglyphs and basic, reusable visual symbols. Repetition
plays an enormous part in these works as they form a beat visually while displaying an aggregate effect of
forming larger shapes. The symbols, simple and recognizable, reflect a stark, sad and uncertain civilization.

Tom has exhibited his work in group shows and has been published internationally, most recently in the photographic
periodical Spew VIII. Tom's work is quite varied, and makes use of graphic design, photography, paintings,
drawings and objects.

Tom lives on Long Island with his wife and two children.
